Hi all.   Here's an invitation to come join TBS at The Greenfield Swimming and Recreation Area on Tuesday, July 8th at 6:00PM for an hour workout that I can guarantee will be nothing like anything you've ever done.   This will be non-competitive, (no score kept) but will be a fun time where people can either come and watch or participate in a great total body workout.  A bit of the history of the game is below.  Becky found this while browsing the net and we both thought, "awsome!".

In a nutshell, you toss a medicine ball over the volleyball net and the other team has to catch it and toss it back.  Beck and I went down to the pool and did it for about 30 minutes.   Great workout!  Great fun!   If you're a TBS member, we welcome you to come down and try this with us.  Who knows, if it proves to be popular, maybe we can make it a regular thing.  Maybe someday we'll even graduate to keeping score.

I figure we'll have a 2lb, 4lb and 6lb ball on hand and see what we like the best.  Women and men are invited and we'll have two teams of 5.  If we have more than 10 people interested, we'll rotate players in.   If you're looking for a fun way to break up your workouts, this will be a great way to do it.

I have arranged it with the rec department that we're going to pay a flat fee of $25 for all of us to use the volleyball net at the pool.  If we have 10 people there, that's pretty cheap entertainment.  You can pay me at the pool.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Beck and I go for a swim when we're done if anyone wants to join us.

Of course this is all contingent upon good weather.

History and Rules of Hoover-Ball
It was once the most popular sport at the White House, played by the President, Supreme Court justices, Cabinet members and other high government officials. But when Herbert Hoover left the White House in 1933, Hoover-ball vanished from the American sporting scene.

A combination of tennis, volleyball and medicine ball, Hoover-ball was invented, developed and perfected by White House physician Admiral Joel T. Boone to keep Hoover physically fit. "It required less skill than tennis, was faster and more vigorous, and therefore gave more exercise in a short time," Hoover wrote in his Memoirs.
